The dealer deals two cards to each player and two to themselves. Both of the player's cards are face up. The dealer has one face-up card (upcard) and one face-down card (hole card). This gives you key information to base your decisions on.

Once all players have made their decisions, the dealer reveals their hole card. The dealer must Hit on 16 or below and must Stand on 17 or above (this rule is fixed and never changes). The dealer has no strategic choices.
